In an Industry dominated by men director Park Chan Ok is one of the few well known female director's in Asian cinema. After the success of her debut "Jealousy is My Middle Name," Park Chan Ok is definitely one director to watch.
Not wishing to follow normal story conventions, Paju slowly unfolds through seemingly unrelated flashbacks before all becoming clear in the film’s final moments. Paju and its director, Park Chan-ok, have been hailed for the realistic and unconventional depictions of women in Korean cinema attracting great success in film festivals around the world.
Plot
An activist, Joong-shik, flees from the police after causing a terrible accident and hides in the small town of Paju. While not giving up his activist ways he meets a kindred spirit in Eun-soo and begins a romantic tryst much to her disapproving younger sister, Eun-mo. Leaping eight years into the future, Eun-mo, returns from a three year soul searching journey through India to find much has changed in her hometown. She is forced to deal with everything she left behind, including her now widowed brother-in-law, Joong-shik.
