Kara's "Step" remains No. 1 for the second straight week, edging out Davichi's "Don't Say Goodbye" again with both songs still over 900 points. As we mentioned last week, Kara has been one of the most successful charting artists in our ranking over the last two years. They show no sign of giving up this title as they continue to rack up No. 1 songs.
If not because of the strength of "Step", Davichi's "Don't Say Goodbye" would have stayed in No. 1 for a bit longer. It's not often that two songs score more than 900 points in consecutive weeks.
Sung Shi Kyung's "I Like" temporary breaks the female dominance on the chart, rising five spots and occupying No. 3 this week. With the top two songs starting to reduce in points and "I Like" is moving up, Sung Shi Kyung is eyeing the top spot for next week. Male soloist has been very weak on the chart this year with only K.Will spending one single week on top of the chart earlier this year. Sung Shi Kyung looks to change that.
After a relatively quiet September, the top 10 this week features four new songs. Leading off at No. 6 is Superstar K Season 2 winner Huh Gak's "Hello", coming from his first mini-album "First Story". "Hello" is a ballad number with beautiful string and piano arrangements. Huh’s emotional and strong vocals skills are expected to awe listeners. This song has been surprisingly doing well on many rankings with a win on the latest KBS Music Bank. It will likely move up to the top three next week.
At No. 8, it is the long awaited comeback by Brown Eyed Girls. The latest hit "Hot Shot" moves up 11 spots this week. Last year, BEG members are busy with their solo activities including Narsha and Ga In's mini-albums. Now the group is finally back together better than ever. "Hot Shot" is the lead single and released first as a digital single prior to the release of their 4th album "Sixth Sense". It is a funky number written by Lee Min Soo and Kim Ina. BEG has received rave reviews on their comeback and is only a matter of time before they land another chart topping hit. Whether it is "Hot Shot" or "Sixth Sense" remains to be seen, as "Sixth Sense" is the real album title song and may replace "Hot Shot" next week.
Another singer who releases her new album next week is Zi-A. She appears at No. 9 this week with her second preview single "Wish It Was You", a duet with K.Will. This song is composed by Minuki. The duet number featuring K.Will is about a broken up couple and the hardships and pain the woman feels through this ordeal.
A surprise new entry at No. 10 is duo UV's latest hit "Who Am I". UV had a hit earlier this year with "Itaewon Freedom" featuring the famous JYP. This time another two well known musicians, Yoo Hee Yeol and Jung Jae Hyung, lend a hand to this song. It is a very refreshing 60s/70s style Beatles like ballad, a strong deviation from the pop songs we are hearing today.

THIS WEEK IN 2009:
In this segment we go back in time to re-visit charts of the same week in past years. The Soompi music chart began in January 2005. At first we had only 20 songs and was later expanded to 50 songs.
Kim Tae Woo was a member of G.O.D, one of the most successful k-pop boy groups ever. Known as the best vocalist in the group with his rich voice, Kim made his solo debut in 2006 with "The Word I Wish To Say". Kim's contemporary music style often attracts to more mature listeners. In 2009, right before he was enlisted in the military, Kim released a mini-album T-Virus. The title song "Love Rain" became a big hit that captured listeners of all ages. It spent four weeks on top of our chart starting in October week 1 of 2009. At our year end soompi gayo award in 2009, "Love Rain" was a run away winner of the song with the highest chart scores in all of 2009 and was crowned "Song Of The Year".
